Strand Street still carries “beach” in its name. Before foreshore reclamation pushed the edge of Table Bay outward, the water lay much closer to this side of the city. From a morning coffee on Strand, a short walk climbs into cobbled lanes, fanlit cottage doors and the intimate scale of the old quarter.
